North Atlantic makes loneliness feel enormous with almost nothing more than two voices, an airfield and a stretch of ocean. Bernardo Nascimento’s short film connects an isolated controller in the Azores with a pilot crossing the Atlantic, and their brief radio exchange becomes unexpectedly affecting because neither man can do much for the other. The restraint is the point: a tiny moment of contact has to carry the whole emotional weight.
