Frequently Asked Questions
We look for high quality short films under 40 minutes that centre on gay male stories. We also welcome films featuring bisexual male characters, male to female trans characters, and documentaries that align with our audience.
Absolutely. Your short film remains entirely yours. You keep all copyright, ownership, and future distribution rights. We simply receive permission to feature your short film on our YouTube channel.
Yes. Our arrangement is non exclusive, so you remain free to screen, sell, license, and distribute your short film elsewhere. However, your short film must not be subject to any exclusive agreement that would prevent Gay Films Matter from legally distributing and monetizing it on YouTube.
No. This is only for YouTube distribution. We do not distribute submitted short films to streaming services, television networks, cinemas, or other platforms.
You can request removal at any time. We simply ask for 30 days notice before taking the short film down from our YouTube channel.
Generally, no. Because all content must comply with YouTube’s advertising and community guidelines, short films containing explicit sexual content or significant nudity are unlikely to be approved.
That depends on your agreement. If another company has exclusive rights to distribute or monetize your short film, we cannot accept it. This helps avoid copyright disputes, Content ID claims, and potential YouTube strikes.
If your short film is monetized on YouTube, advertising revenue is shared equally. Filmmakers receive 50% of the net advertising revenue earned by their short film.
After publication, you’ll receive access to a reporting page where you can monitor views, earnings, and payment information associated with your short film.
You must have the legal right to distribute every element included in your short film, including music, images, footage, and performances. If your short film is not in English, please provide the video language and English subtitles during submission.
