Red Dirt is a moody Southern drama about repression, family obligation and forbidden desire. The film occasionally slips into melodrama, but its rural Mississippi setting and brooding atmosphere give the story a distinctive identity, while Dan Montgomery brings vulnerability to the conflicted central role.
