Breaking Fast

Directed by Mike Mosallam

On the holiest night during the month of Ramadan, Mo, a practicing Muslim reluctantly attends his best friend's birthday party, where he unexpectedly meets Kal, a 30-year-old all-American white guy, who catches him by surprise with each twist and turn through the streets of Los Angeles.

Adapted into the feature-length movie 'Breaking Fast (2020)'.

A first date during Ramadan gives Breaking Fast an immediate tension that most romantic comedies would need far longer to manufacture. Mike Mosallam’s gay short film is strongest when Mo and Kal simply talk, eat and test one another’s assumptions about faith and sexuality. The concept would later expand into a feature, but this compact version has an appealing ease; the chemistry feels conversational rather than engineered.
