The funniest thing about Church Camp is that the setting promises catastrophe and the film keeps finding absurdity instead. Josh’s attempt to come out as bisexual through a prayer card becomes a genuinely clever comic problem, complete with painfully specific church-camp rituals. Andrew Bourne’s gay short film can feel a little optimistic about acceptance, but the humour gives bisexual uncertainty room to exist without turning it into trauma.
