Forty Deuce retains the claustrophobic intensity of the stage play that inspired it, with a young Kevin Bacon giving committed energy to a bleak portrait of hustlers and addiction around Times Square. The film can feel theatrical and relentlessly grim, but Paul Morrissey’s interest in damaged outsiders gives the material a certain raw authenticity.
