Delphinium

Directed by Matthew Mishory

A stylized and lyrical portrait of artist Derek Jarman's childhood awakening in 1950s England.

This film is currently unavailable to watch. It may be unreleased at this time, or may no longer be available to watch.

Derek Jarman is not approached here as a tidy biographical subject. Delphinium turns fragments of his childhood, sexuality and visual language into a collage that deliberately echoes the filmmaker it remembers. Matthew Mishory’s gay short film can verge on reverence, but the Super 8 textures, dream logic and focus on an early formative incident make it feel closer to an artistic response than a conventional tribute.
