Last Address is devastating precisely because it contains almost no conventional drama. Ira Sachs simply films the final New York addresses of artists who died from AIDS, letting buildings, traffic and ordinary neighbourhood noise do the work. As a documentary short film, it turns absence into evidence; the city keeps moving, but each address carries a life that should still be there.
