The Rules of Attraction is a slick, cynical adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis in which desire, cruelty and emotional disconnection collide on a college campus. The characters are intentionally difficult to like, but Roger Avary’s energetic direction and inventive editing give the film a strong, abrasive style.
