Barrio Boy is a warm gay short film about a Puerto Rican barber quietly falling for a handsome stranger in a Brooklyn neighbourhood where openness still feels risky. Dennis Shinners keeps the premise simple and romantic, using the intimacy of the barbershop and Quique’s private longing to give the film an appealing mixture of sweetness, humour and restraint.
